Sneaky is a Classically trained musician who realized the need to search for his own musical identity at a very young age. After formal training on cello and doublebass and the completion of a music degree in his hometown of Manchester, UK Sneaky became involved with forward thinking club nights Headfunk and Eardrum alongside a young drummer James Ford (SimianMobileDisco), and resident djs Mr Scruff, Andy Votel, and Mark Rae. By 1997 Sneaky was heavily involved with Mark Rae´s label Grand Central as a live session musician touring extensively around Europe and Australia with the Rae & Christian band. A session with fellow Manc Mr Scruff in 99 produced the cheeky dancefloor classic “Get a move on” and the following year Sneaky formed FINGATHING with fellow R&C band member Peter Parker. After 7 years of worldwide touring, 3 albums, several singles and eps released through Grand Central and Ninja Tune records Sneaky moved to Berlin March 2007 to further his musical inspiration and has been making his solo mark ever since..... "Feel Like A King...Pluck A String" was released in 2009 on the Big Chill Label and follow up "Feel Like A Remix" in 2010. Sneaky has been developing a live show to present his music and in the last year performed a handful of critically acclaimed shows as a duo together with a drummer around UK and Europe. Other current musical projects and collaborations with: Graciela Maria , Robot Koch, RQM, Matt Frameworks plus his own berlin dj collective and imprint Hot Source.
SOUL CONCENTRATE MIX SERIES……..
With all the advancements in technology a “dj” can put together pretty much whatever he or she wants these days. This said, there are very few in my humble opinion who use this to the fullest and do more than beat match tune after tune without much attention to detail. Now don´t get me wrong I honestly believe that the tunes themselves are the most important aspect; but as I see it, a dj´s job is to present these gems in such a way to maximise their effect. In a club a dj needs to be foremost adaptable to his or her crowd. Sets that are too planned with tricky quick edits will struggle to hold even the most open-minded dancefloor boppers. On a mixtape however the gloves are off so to speak and the listener is freer to be taken on the dj´s journey…..
In the past several hiphop beat makers and producers have made mixtapes that jump from original samples, one break after another relentlessly. For beat digging geeks like myself they provide interest and inspiration, but the flow rarely makes for a relaxing listen. Often, in my opinion they are not much more than a bragging tool – “check out the rare records I have”. Without providing tracklists they promote the beat digger as an elitist, taking away from the original music itself…..
Having made many dj mixes myself over the years with varying degrees of success, I decided to push the bar higher with a series of mini concentrated mixes that trulyrepresent my taste and influences as a musician, producer and a dj.  My ever growing collection of old and new vinyl provides me with constant rediscoveries that I feel compelled to share…..
The aim of this new series is to pay proper tribute to the music that I love in a way that has not yet been done, by arranging and layering samples, loops, self made edits and acapellas to create my own musical journey. Like the break to break mixes I will be cramming in a hell of a lot of tunes into a short set while attempting to recreate something new and cohesive that honours and reinterprets the originals.
There will be 4 volumes in the series, all approximately 15 minutes each. To keep yourselves nicely topped up with the elixir over the coming wintery months i´ll upload a new one every two weeks up until the end of the year.
The first instalment has been concocted and its medicine time folks…………
